Questions

Why did you choose your course at the University of Birmingham?

The major reason why I choose to study at the University of Birmingham is that it has rich academic resources and excellent professors. The University of Birmingham boasts a faculty of outstanding professors and academics from around the world. These faculty members have both extensive academic experience and a passion for teaching. It also has an beautiful campus environment and state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, which can help us to study effectively and efficiently.

What has been the highlight of your course and why?

I think every module in my course is worth studying. The module second language learning and teaching helps me a lot, which addresses my questions about how to find the most suitable method to teach different students. I also really enjoy its seminars, where I could gain diverse outstanding ideas not only from my professors but also from my classmates.

What have you learnt from your course? How has it prepared you for your future career?

In my class, I learned as a teacher it is more critical to strengthen students’ confidence in learning a foreign language rather than lecturing textbook contents to them. In the future, I hope I can be a good teacher. What I am learning helps me to get a deep understanding of what a language class should be based on various purposes of learners.

What has surprised you most about being a student at the University of Birmingham?

The students here come from all over the world, we met because of our passion for education and became close friends. The atmosphere of mutual care and concern has made me feel the warmth of home in a foreign country, and at the same time, I have learnt about the world and different cultures through them, which are the most valuable experiences of my youth.

What have you enjoyed most about living and studying in Birmingham? What have been your favourite things to do in the city?

I was most impressed by the very modern study spaces in Birmingham. A blend of classic and contemporary, the University of Birmingham’s campus has a multifaceted feel. Our iconic Main Library has plenty of study space and includes wireless mobile charging, multi-purpose laboratories, online books and journals to cater for every imaginable academic pursuit! The University of Birmingham continues to create modern teaching spaces with state-of-the-art mobility facilities, spacious classrooms and a design centre with a strong learning atmosphere to make our learning environment even better!
What’s more, Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower, also called Old Joe, attracted me a lot too. Old Joe is the tallest free-standing bell tower in the world. Whenever we hear the Old Joe bell ringing, we feel extra reassured. Furthermore, the Barber Museum of Art in our campus is one of the best museums in the UK, containing works of art by Van Gogh, Monet, Marguerite and Picasso, as well as many Renaissance masterpieces and other artefacts. From time to time, there are various themed exhibitions, all of which are free to visit!
