Questions
What would you say to someone considering the Skills Bootcamp?
They should go for it because it is an amazing opportunity.
What are some of the best things about your Skills Bootcamp experience or your biggest achievements?
Working on a real set is definitely the best thing and the biggest achievement the bootcamp offers.
Have you been offered a new job role and/or responsibilities which utilise the skills and experience acquired on the Skills Bootcamp?
Yes, I am now a Runner for BBC Childrens.
Tell us about yourself and your journey to studying a Skills Bootcamp.
I have always been interested in film and TV and had studied both those things in college and University. But it wasn’t until the bootcamp that I felt that i was actually someone who was working in the industry as opposed to someone who wanted to. My work on This Town was really great and I loved working on set.
Why did you choose to study a Skills Bootcamp at the University of Birmingham?
I had graduated from University 2 years prior and was struggling to find work in TV and Film. This Bootcamp seemed like the perfect next step in my career.
How was your placement on the Skills Bootcamp?
My time on set was really amazing. It was really interesting to see the adaptations made to cater towards deaf colleagues on set and was really heartwarming to see that the industry has a place for disabled people, which as a fulltime wheelchair user myself, was great to see. I was able to ask questions and network while I also got more on set experience which will be invaluable for my future career. Hopefully, this will lead to future work between myself and 104 Films as they are one of the pioneers of getting people with disabilities into an industry that can sometimes feel inaccessible to us. I cannot thank Justin and the 104 team enough for welcoming me on set and giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity to work with them.
