All of these will add colour to this life-changing and unforgettable experience of mine.

What are you looking forward to most on your course?

I’m especially looking forward to the practical training sessions, as I’m better at practical work than theoretical knowledge. The weekly Practical Training session is undoubtedly the part I’m looking forward to the most, being able to edit and processing materials on computers and communicates with my fellow coursemates gives me an immersive and fulfilling experience. This part of learning also plays an important role of guiding and showing me how may I work in the future, as I have a strong intention to step in the film or television industry after graduation. Preparation of personal work is very important for this professional field and I am always looking forward to presenting my ideas in an audio-visual way of art. Through these practical training sessions and chances given to me of producing documentary films of my own, I will be encouraged to show my own experiences and points of view, which is what I really look forward to reach through this programme.

What have been your first impressions of Birmingham so far?

Birmingham, as the second most cosmopolitan city in the UK, with the largest young population in Europe, the energy and vitality that I’m able to sense was unrivalled. Being able to see different culture collide and merge was novel and fascinating to me. Although I’m only here for less than a month, as a keen museum enthusiast, I’ve already visited museums in the city or on campus and learned a lot from the exhibitions. The humid and cool weather here makes me feel so refreshed and clean air makes me relaxed, not to mention the clear and limpid sunrays that could only be seen in high latitude areas, always giving me an amazing feeling of tranquility. Overall, Birmingham is really an ideal place to live in for me, and I feel lucky for being able to stay here.

What was your motivation for postgraduate study?

I always believe that talking to a new person means opening a door to a whole new world. I’m eager to enbrace the diversity and to immerse myself in a rich multicultural environment, and to satisfy my curiosity by interacting with more people from different cultures and backgrounds. Studying here made all of these within reach. Also I’m open to new opportunities and always ready for challenges, and that’s why I decided to leave the place where I grew up to continue my studies and start a new life in a brand new place far away.
One of the key things that UoB really attracted me was the excellent careers guidance and support, which is also the reason why I made my final choice to apply to the Masters programme here. Equipped with an abundance of knowledge and practical skills, I will be encouraged to kick start my career here armed with wider and deeper understanding of the industry.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to postgraduate study.

Being interested in media and content creation, I majored in Radio and Television Studies during my undergraduate years, giving me a glimpse of news, television, communications, internet and new media and so on, among which film and television arouse my interest and made me decided to dive deep in. The experience of visiting the UK twice for leisure before made me so fascinated by the history, culture and atmosphere here. As a city both historical and dynamic, Birmingham made a special impression on me and I decided to pursue further knowledge here in UoB. I’m well prepared in advance, worked hard on the grades and language tests, and applied for the programme as soon as I could during the final year of my undergraduate. I still feel lucky and can’t conceal my excitement that I actually got a chance to study here, everyday is full of challenge and I’m absorbing in new information and continuously learning about everything, and I’m sure that this is a wonderful life-changing journey, and I’ve made one of the best decisions in my life.
