My experience with the University’s services, particularly the Careers Network, has been exceptionally positive. The appointments I had with the Careers Network were instrumental in shaping my career path. The advisors were not only knowledgeable but also extremely helpful in guiding me through career planning, CV preparation, and even conducting mock interviews. Their insights and feedback significantly boosted my confidence and preparedness for the job market. Additionally, the Career Network team organizes various events throughout the year to facilitate interactions with businesses. These events provided invaluable opportunities to network, gain industry insights, and explore potential career paths.

What has been your biggest achievement during your course so far?

My most significant achievement during my course has been becoming a postgraduate ambassador, a role that has allowed me to connect with and assist fellow students. This experience has not only enhanced my interpersonal and leadership skills but also provided a platform to share insights and support within the university community. I am particularly eager to bring this valuable experience back to Vietnamese students, fostering a sense of community and sharing knowledge to contribute positively to their academic and personal journeys.

What are the best things about your course?

Enrolled in the MSc Accounting and Finance program, the standout feature of my course is the exceptional support from university staff and teachers. Their commitment goes beyond traditional academic guidance, extending to comprehensive information about available services and how to leverage them for academic success, personal development, and career advancement. The faculty ensures that students are well-informed about resources that not only enhance our studies but also enrich our overall lives and future careers. This high level of support creates a nurturing environment, fostering a holistic educational experience that prepares us not only for academic excellence but also for success beyond the classroom.

How has your funding helped you?

The Dean’s Responsible Business Scholarship has been instrumental in alleviating my financial burdens and making my academic journey possible. This scholarship has not only made a positive impact on my immediate academic experience but has also contributed to shaping my future towards responsible business.

I am proud to be a Vietnamese student in the global community at the University of Birmingham. My journey to postgraduate study stems from a profound interest in accounting and finance. The completion of my undergraduate studies sparked a desire to delve deeper into these fields, prompting me to seek education within a more developed academic system. I aspire to absorb valuable insights that will not only enhance my professional capabilities but also equip me to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth and development of my homeland. Pursuing postgraduate study represents a crucial step in my commitment to bridging the knowledge gap and applying acquired expertise to positively impact my beautiful yet developing country – Vietnam.

What was your motivation for postgraduate study?

Pursuing the ACCA qualification, I acknowledged that the UK is the home to solid accounting and finance professional bodies, leading the world in terms of accounting standards’ development. It also dawned on me that the University of Birmingham, which has a stellar reputation and high ranking in both taught and research programmes, exceeds all my expectations. As a result, I am engrossed in the curriculum covering various insights into accounting and finance. The modules provide participants with the resources, assistance, and groundwork required to improve professional competency.
