Questions

What would you say to someone considering the Skills Bootcamp?

The more you put in, the more you get out. Go the extra mile, push yourself and your skills to the test.

What are some of the best things about your Skills Bootcamp experience or your biggest achievements?

Some of my biggest achievements was definitely during the projects where I was team lead for all them but my role included helping my fellow boot campers in solving their problems which also helped me improve my confidence.

A good skill that I improved was researching, you’re not meant to remember everything only remember what it is you need and how you find it.

Have you been offered a new job role and/or responsibilities which utilise the skills and experience acquired on the Skills Bootcamp?

Yes, I am now a Junior Developer at FL1 Digital.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to studying a Skills Bootcamp.

I had been working in the Travel and Tourism industry for 7 years, managed to excel and become an assistant manager which could leave me in charge of over 100 individuals a day.

But it was never something that I wanted to do forever, the long hours, strange seasons and giving up almost weekends was something that worked while I was unsure in my life, but not when I wanted to actually start it.

After my friend recommended me the Boot Camp because he knew I was always interested in stepping into the development world it just felt like the right thing to do.

Why did you choose to study a Skills Bootcamp at the University of Birmingham?

I had the recommendation from a friend who works with someone who had completed this course, said he knew his stuff and that this course would be a great way for me to get into Web Development. Also as UoB is a respectable University it really did just feel like the best offer available.
