Questions

What has your experience been like as a distance learner student at the University of Birmingham?

My experience on the program has been a tornado- it has blown me away! Being outside of the world of academia for an extended number of years was a large obstacle when I first started the masters. The support offered has enabled me to climb over this obstacle. Before starting the masters, I had no engagement with the literature. Now every opportunity I get I am reading about it or discussing it with others.

What is your favourite thing about your MA TESOL (distance learning) course?

My favourite thing about the MA TESOL (distance learning) course is the practical and circular nature between theory and practice. The literature has impacted what I do while teaching, while the experience in the classroom modifies my interpretation and strengthens my understanding of the literature.

Why did you choose to study the MA TESOL (distance learning) at the University of Birmingham?

The reason why I decided to study at Birmingham is because I decided that I wanted to continue working while getting my masters. Of the options available, Birmingham was without comparison with regards to the variety of modules and teaching quality.

What have you enjoyed most about the English Language and Applied Linguistics Postgraduate Summer School?

There have been many things I have enjoyed about the summer school. Most importantly, as distance learners we are spread throughout the globe. The summer school allows us to meet and learn from each other’s experience and interpretations. The lectures were insightful and thought provoking I am looking forward to returning to China to implement what I have learnt.
