Questions

Which areas of digital media and/or creative industries are you're interested in? What's something new that you've learnt on the MA?

I have always been interested in museum and want to utilize digital media in conjunction with cultural characteristics. In Marketing in the Creative and Cultural Sector, I was introduced to the concept of Place Branding. My hometown Nanjing, as the World City of Literature, has many cultural museums. I hope that these will become its own Place Branding through the media, so that more people can know about this beautiful city.

What's your favourite module on your MA?

I’ve enjoyed Creative Industries and the Law, especially the study of free speech. Honestly, I didn’t know much about the freedom of speech for individuals and the media before. But after learning it, I have been fascinated by its former philosophical foundation and today’s legal ideas, which lead me to think about the present internet environment.

What's your career goal and how is Birmingham helping you reach this?

My goal is to promote good culture through the power of media. I’ll do more pioneering research once I have gained some experience. I am motivated by the academic resources at school and the museums and art galleries in this city.

What do you think is unique about the University of Birmingham?

I am very fortunate to be able to study on this beautiful campus. It is different from my previous learning environment in that the teachers encourage me to experiment and think critically, and I have achieved a lot of things here that I once couldn’t believe I could do.
