Questions

What do you hope to achieve during your postgraduate study at Birmingham?

There are several modules in our courses, such as media adaptation, law, policy, and marketing. I hope I can better master digital media skills after my postgraduate study, and get good results in the exam, so as to prepare for being a media worker in the future

What are you looking forward to most on your course?

The aspect I am most excited about in my postgraduate course is the Media Adaptation module. I believe this course will be invaluable in helping me develop the skills necessary for adapting content across different digital media platforms, which is a crucial ability in today’s fast-evolving creative industries. With the rise of transmedia storytelling and cross-platform content consumption, learning how to effectively repurpose stories, ideas, or campaigns for various formats—such as video, social media, interactive platforms, or immersive experiences—will be a vital skill for my future career in media. Another reason I look forward to this course is the opportunity to tackle the creative and cultural challenges involved in adaptation. I expect to learn how to modify content to align with the expectations of different platforms while remaining culturally sensitive and relevant to diverse audiences. This will deepen my understanding of how to navigate the balance between creative freedom and audience expectations, preparing me to make thoughtful decisions when working with global media projects in the future.

What have been your first impressions of Birmingham so far?

My first impressions of Birmingham is the University of Birmingham. What attracts me most about this university is its architecture and culture. The beautiful red brick buildings surround the clock tower Old Joe. I can hear the bell before every class. I like this feeling very much. After class, I will go to the library to study. The library has a wide variety of books and the environment is very nice. I like this kind of self-study atmosphere very much. In addition, I am also impressed by the art gallery and museum of the University of Birmingham. Last month, I went to the museum and saw many precious fossils and historical relics. At the same time, I learned about the experience of Chinese geologist Li Siguang studied and researched at the University of Birmingham. So I like the University of Birmingham very much and I am very honored to be a part of it.

What was your motivation for postgraduate study?

From an early age, I have been fascinated by the way media shapes narratives, influences opinions, and connects people across cultures. This fascination grew into a desire to engage with media actively, not just as a consumer but also as a creator. During my undergraduate studies, I gained a basic foundation in digital media tools. However, I realized that to stay relevant in this highly competitive industry, I needed to further refine my skills and keep up with the latest developments in areas such as content creation, media management, and audience engagement.
