When I joined the bootcamp I was introduced to the screen industries, it’s workings and the various roles involved. I and others were given a chance to make our own short film where we were assigned to a specific role to our interest. As someone who is interested in fashion I chose to be assigned to the roles of wardrobe and makeup. I was tasked with finding costumes and doing VFX makeup for the actors. Our short film was screened at the Mockingbird Cinema as part of our end of the Bootcamp celebration.
As part of the Bootcamp training, I was sent on a one week shadowing opportunity with the BBC Drama Village where they filmed “DOCTORS”. I was shadowed on the various roles such as Production Office, Costume, Hair and Makeup and Runner. The experience was very enjoyable and instructive.

After my graduation and return to my home town of Birmingham, I was looking to apply and expand my skills as a fashion graduate and gain experience following my period of study during the pandemic years. Birmingham city was in the process of developing it’s creative screen industries where I saw opportunities in the work of costume and wardrobe. The Bootcamp offered an intensive and practical introduction to, and a bridge for opportunities in various roles including costume where I can utilise existing skills and develop new ones.
