My experience so far with the University of Birmingham has been wonderful, and I have felt really welcomed into the postgraduate community here. I love the campus, the facilities at the university, and my department who have helped make the transition to postgraduate studies so smooth.

I chose my MA degree in Contemporary History as it offered the chance to specialise in a particular historical period which reflects both my personal and research interests. The course stood out against other degrees, not only because of the excellent standard of research and teaching within the department, but the flexibility of the degree provides the opportunity to study a variety of modules from across the college, which means my teaching is tailored to my interests. This degree also provides me with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to progress with further research in the future. The CAL Scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to continue my research and develop my own thinking as a historian.

Having completed my undergraduate degree in English and History at the University of Birmingham, I knew I wanted to continue my academic research at Birmingham. The university’s vibrant and friendly community, as well as the facilities and support available drew me to Birmingham and offered the experience I wanted when I was choosing where to study my postgraduate degree.
