Why did you choose your course at the University of Birmingham?

Having studied Modern Languages at Undergraduate, I knew I wanted to pursue a Master’s course in Translation Studies. After looking at a range of courses at several universities, I decided on the course here at Birmingham due to the great range of modules offered, including several that line up well with my own desired professional development.

What has been the highlight of your course and why?

The highlight of my course so far has definitely been the module about translation technology. In our classes and the final assignment we have the opportunity to work with several technologies that are used in the world of professional translation, which really helps us to prepare for entering the job market.

What have you learnt from your course?

We have learned a lot about recent industry trends, which helps us to decide which specialisms we would like to investigate further in order to have access to the greatest number of employment option possible.

What has surprised you most about being a student at the University of Birmingham?

I was surprised at just how friendly and welcoming the atmosphere is- being a large university you would think it easy to become invisible, but I’ve found that it is really easy to meet other people, even outside of your course.

What have you enjoyed most about living and studying in Birmingham?

I really enjoy walking around campus and seeing Old Joe on my way to class. Further afield in Birmingham I really enjoy exploring the lovely independent cafés and the activity bars in the centre. And of course, the Christmas Markets that start in November make for a great trip out.
