Questions

If you used any of the University's services or received a scholarship or other funding, please tell us about your experience.

I have used multiple services provided by the University, and they are helpful. I have attended multiple career network workshops like CV writing, how to find a full-time job in the UK as a foreigner, amongst many that I attended. These workshops helped me learn about the job market scenario in the Uk and also helped me build a better CV for job applications. I also received a University of Birmingham Commonwealth scholarship, making it easier to pay for international student fees.

Transitioning from one country to another and getting immersed into the new crowd was one of the most significant achievements during this course, personally and academically. I was able to learn and unlearn many things along the way.

Why did you choose your course at the University of Birmingham?

I was always drawn towards interdisciplinary studies, which is why I was automatically drawn towards this course because this course looked at mental health from different perspectives such as biological, philosophical, psychological, social and research.

What were you doing before you started your course?

I studied Liberal Arts in India before I started this course.

What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering postgraduate study in your field?

It’s okay if things do not work out a certain way, doing a master’s can be challenging at some point. It’s okay to take a step back whenever you feel things are not going your way.

What, for you, are the best things about the course?

The best thing about this course is that all the classes are interactive, and students are equally engaged in a classroom atmosphere. Everyone brings forward their opinion about the pre-reading materials and every time I listen to a different perspective about the same reading I get to learn something new.

What was your motivation for undertaking postgraduate study?

I have always been interested in studying mental health and as a Liberal Arts student in undergraduate I did get a chance to specifically focus on mental health as a subject. Therefore, I was automatically motivated to pursue this course when I accidentally happen to discover this course online.
