Questions

What's your favourite module on your course?

My favourite module is ‘Syllabus Design and Language Teaching’, which has greatly expanded my understanding of every step involved in teaching English effectively. The class is both informative and engaging, thanks to the lecturer’s dynamic approach and well-structured material. I’ve gained countless teaching ideas and practical insights from this module, many of which I look forward to implementing in my own classes.

What's your career goal and how is Birmingham helping you reach this?

My career goal is to become a highly qualified English teacher for EFL learners in Indonesia. Pursuing a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics with TESOL will significantly enhance my capability as an English teacher in EFL classrooms. This program deepens my understanding of language acquisition and equips me with evidence-based teaching methodologies tailored to non-native English learners. By exploring areas such as sociolinguistics, describing language, and curriculum design, I can create more engaging and culturally responsive lessons that address the diverse needs of my students.

Additionally, the emphasis on applied research in this field allows me to critically evaluate and implement innovative strategies to overcome common challenges in EFL settings, such as linguistic and cultural barriers. Ultimately, this academic journey will refine my ability to foster communicative competence and inspire confidence among my students, ensuring their long-term success in English language proficiency.

The University of Birmingham has been instrumental in helping me achieve this dream by offering invaluable guidance and support. Through dedicated sessions on networking, personal development, and professional ethos, the university equips me with essential skills beyond academics. While I initially expected my time here to focus solely on studying, I’ve discovered that it provides a much richer experience, preparing me for both professional and personal growth.
