Questions

What do you hope to achieve during your postgraduate study at Birmingham?

Of course, achieving more than 70% in all my courses is a top priority! But beyond that, building a strong network is really important to me. I closed my previous business in December 2023, and I’m planning to restart it in Bangladesh after completing my degree. So, I’m also on the lookout for my next co-founders, as I believe there are a lot of brilliant minds here at UOB. It’s a bit of a secret mission!

What are you looking forward to most on your course?

Since my course is analytical and I have a background in finance from my bachelor’s, I’m really looking forward to learning data analysis and developing technical skills. I believe these new skills will significantly boost my CV compared to before. Practical learning is a must for me, and I’m excited to gain hands-on experience in this field.

What have been your first impressions of Birmingham so far?

So far, my experience in Birmingham has been pretty good, especially when it comes to the course modules. I noticed the university offers free academic tutoring and skill development services. I’ll definitely make the most of these resources to improve.

We’re also going on a trip to the Lake District this week, and our program director is a really cool and fun-loving person, which makes the experience even better.

And lastly, the campus! wow! It’s beautiful and absolutely massive. Truly a great place to be.

What was your motivation for postgraduate study?

After completing my bachelor’s degree at North South University, I knew I wanted to go further. I wanted to improve myself with the skills and knowledge to not only excel in the corporate world but also eventually start my own venture. If luck favours me, I would also love to go for a PhD degree someday. I believe that gaining practical experience and building connections in the business world are just as important as academic achievements, and pursuing a Masters degree in business analytics at the University of Birmingham seemed like the perfect next step.

I chose postgraduate study to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The analytical and decision making skills I aim to acquire here will not only enhance my corporate prospects but also help me realize my long term dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to postgraduate study.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in finance at North South University, one of the top five universities in my country. My father is a successful businessman, and I have always looked up to him for inspiration. Growing up in a business-oriented family, I developed the ambition to start my own business after gaining experience and building a strong network in the corporate sector, alongside my academic pursuits.

I have always aimed for top-ranked educational institutions, and the University of Birmingham was high on my list. Two years ago, I decided to pursue my Masters at one of the Russell Group universities. I applied to four universities and received offers, along with scholarships, from all of them. However, the University of Birmingham stood out by offering me the highest scholarship, and being a founding member of the Russell Group made it an easy choice for me. I know how competitive it is to secure a place in a Russell Group university, but for me, the process was surprisingly smooth. Even when I received the scholarship, I couldn’t believe it at first, it all felt too good to be true. Perhaps I was lucky.

My next goal is to achieve a distinction from the University of Birmingham and secure a placement at one of the top ranked companies. I understand that dreaming is easy, but achieving those dreams requires hard work. However, I believe that dreams shape us into who we are meant to be. We only have one life, so why not strive to accomplish something remarkable?
