Why did you originally apply to do your chosen course at Birmingham?

I chose to study chemistry at Birmingham because the subject has long been a passion of mine and Birmingham felt like the right place to continue this passion. The staff in the School of Chemistry also really sold me on studying the subject because of their passion for it. Additionally, the campus is constantly being developed to improve student experience.

What do you think are the best points of your course?

The best point of my studies at Birmingham has been working in the labs which helped me to build my confidence and teamwork and leadership skills. It’s also a great feeling when you successfully produce a reaction and make something.

What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

The best thing about studying at the University is that there are so many opportunities and societies for students to join; there really is something for everyone and if you can’t find your thing, it’s easy to start a society.

What’s your highlight of your time at the University?

The highlight of my undergraduate degree was graduation which was so rewarding as I felt that I could see all of my hard work finally pay off. Another highlight was the friends I have made, as they are some of the best people I have ever met and I’m still in contact with most of them.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying on the course?

Labs can sound extremely daunting and scary at first, especially if you have no or little experience of practical chemistry skills but don’t worry about them, they are designed with that in mind, and you will develop the skills to become a great chemist.

Is there anything extra students thinking about studying on the course should know?

The subject will be difficult sometime, but the staff here are really helpful and always willing to spend more time like their office hours going through the stuff with you until it clicks. That is why they have office hours available to you.
