The best part of my course, MA Islamic Studies is the refreshing and contemporary approach of the subject. The range of modules to choose from allowed me to opt for the ones in tandem with my personal research interests. The interactive method of teaching, class discussions and group assignments made the learning experience wholesome and interesting. Besides, access to a rich library, with 3000 Middle Eastern manuscripts, including a unique manuscript of the Qur’an and other resources is extremely helpful and exciting as a postgraduate student. As a recipient of CAL scholarship, University of Birmingham supported me to pursue my academic endeavours.

What have you learnt from your course?

Apart from the nuanced study of the subject, this course has offered so much more. From introduction to formal research to varied approaches of studying religion, it has allowed me to think beyond the horizon, and aptly prepared me for further studies. Healthy interaction with faculty members, class discussions and formal assessments have instilled confidence in me, improved my writing ability and honed my skills of critical analysis which will bear fruit during my PhD.
