Questions

What would you say to someone considering a CPD course?

To absolutely go for it. The staff are lovely, very helpful, and the university absolutely do accept the courses as alternative qualifications. If you feel locked out due to a low grade, these courses really help.

How has your CPD course benefitted you?

I am currently enrolled on a full Masters programme thanks to the course.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to studying a CPD course.

I studied Performing Arts at the Univeristy of Sunderland as my undergraduate degree but suffered from a great deal of stress in my final year due to family problems. As such, my grade suffered and I graduated with a 2:2 rather than my predicted 2:1.

I took many years off after uni having burnt out. However, I recently decided to return to education and study my Masters degree specialising in Shakespeare, a subject I am passionate about. After searching many universities, only a small handful offered Shakespeare at MA, and all of them required a 2:1. However, Birmingham offered the CPD course as an alternative to the 2:1 and so I was able to study that course, pass, apply and be accepted for my Masters.

Why did you choose to study a CPD course at the University of Birmingham?

I chose to study the short course as I had made the decision to pursue Shakespeare for my Masters degree. However, my qualification from my bachelors wasn’t high enough, being only a 2:2. As such, I decided to study at Birmingham as they offered the short course as alternative qualification.
