What new skills have you gained by studying MA Translation Studies? How do you think these skills will help you in the future?

My MA Translation Studies has equipped me with CAT tool proficiency (SDL Trados, MemoQ), enabling efficient multilingual projects through translation memory systems, terminology management, and post-editing MT outputs. These technical skills boost translation accuracy and prepare me for global language industry demands, bridging communication in digitalized, multicultural workplaces.

What's your favourite module so far?

My favourite module is “Translating for Business”. It combines theory learning and translation practice, training me to apply different strategies on different genres of commercial document translation. Through real-world case studies and terminology management projects, I’ve gained sector-specific skills to deliver accurate translations, preparing me for global corporate communication challenges.

What's your career goal and how is Birmingham helping you reach this?

My career goal is to become a professional business translator. The college invites talents and translation masters from various industries to give lectures every week, providing us with the latest industry information and allowing us to learn from their years of work experience and improve ourselves. In addition, the college also provides a wealth of practical opportunities, such as some voluntary translation practices, so that we can continuously enrich our experience and accumulate practical experience before graduation.

What do you think is unique about the University of Birmingham?

The University of Birmingham distinguishes itself through its historic Redbrick heritage, world-class facilities like the Main Library and language labs, and a welcoming, multicultural campus. Its blend of tradition and innovation fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, while Birmingham’s diverse community enriches cross-cultural understanding. I admire its respect to LGBT community by conducting a series of LGBT events, designing Gender Neutral restrooms and other meaningful activities.
