In today’s digital age, online events have revolutionized the way students learn about universities. Before the digitalisation students had to rely solely on word of mouth or physically attend open days to understand what a university had to offer. Now, with just a few clicks, you can access a wealth of information and experiences right from your home.

What to expect

The University of Birmingham’s Online Open Week is a thoughtfully curated event, it aims at providing prospective students with a sense into life at the university. Here are some highlights:

  • Programme Introductions: Learn about the diverse range of courses offered, directly from the programme leads and faculty members. This is a golden opportunity to gain insights into course content, teaching methods, and potential career pathways.
  • Live Q&A Sessions: One of the most valuable aspects of the Open Week is the chance to ask questions and get real-time answers. Whether it’s about academic expectations, student life, or general queries. It also features a panel with current students who can guide the prospective students first hand!
  • Virtual Campus Tours: Experience the stunning campus and its facilities from wherever you are on our website. These tours provide a glimpse into the spaces where you’ll learn, live, and grow.
  • Accommodation Insights: Explore the various accommodation options available to students. From en-suite rooms to shared flats, you’ll get a feel for what your new home could look like.

My experience

I have found the University of Birmingham is an incredibly welcoming institution, offering countless opportunities for prospective students to connect and engage, even before they officially join the university community. The university facilitates this through its diverse range of online events. These events are conducted to ensure everyone can explore what the university has to offer without the need for travel, which can be especially beneficial to International students, or those who cannot travel to attend the Open Day.

As someone who once stood in the shoes of a prospective student, I cannot stress enough how impactful these online events are. When I attended my introductory event to my course, I was happy to have direct interaction with the faculty members who patiently answered all my queries. It not only gave me clarity about my programme but also helped reassure me about the supportive environment at Birmingham. It definitely helped me make my decision without any confusion or anxiousness.
