My journey to Birmingham

I never thought I’d be pursuing a Masters, let alone from one of the best universities in the world. But, hey, like they say, “never say never”.

If I could describe my time at the University of Birmingham in one word, it’d be “transformative”. As an international student, I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I decided to uproot my life and move to the UK. Looking back now, I can’t help but think that this decision could have gone either way. However, the support, resources, and opportunities to explore and learn new things made my time at the University of Birmingham truly transformative.

I completed an MSc in Management (Operations Pathway) at the Birmingham Business School. While the lectures and workshops were informative, it was the access to opportunities outside the classroom that truly enriched my learning experience. The PGT Knowledge Exchange Pathway (PGTKEP) gave me the chance to work with a health-tech start-up as part of my company project. This experience provided me with the opportunity to work in a team of diverse individuals, which was invaluable.

I also had the opportunity to work with the BBC as part of the Future Leaders Certificate (FLC), an extra-curricular programme developed by the Birmingham Business School to support students in gaining new skills. Additionally, due to my interest in entrepreneurship, I regularly attended events and workshops organised by B-Enterprising, a careers team dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship within the university. Interestingly, B-Enterprising was one of the major factors in my decision to choose the University of Birmingham for my master’s.

Life after graduation

The support I received during my time at the university and after I graduated has been incredible. I founded InStudents, a social enterprise with the goal of promoting equity in education worldwide. InStudents is incubated at the Exchange and is still supported by the B-Enterprising team. InStudents has already impacted over 1,000 students across various cities in India, and we aim to reach more than a million by 2027. This would not have been possible without my time at the University of Birmingham and the support of all the amazing people and departments here.

Even though I am no longer officially a student here and my master’s journey ended 2 years ago, the University of Birmingham continues to hold a special place in my heart, serving as a beacon of inspiration and a testament to the transformative power of education.
