Lucy Hoy is researching the impact of Alternative Provision on young people, aiming to provide feedback to develop a framework that schools can implement to reduce the inclusions of students, while improving the reintegration process strategy. Lucy hopes this will benefit the reintegration of students back into their school work, while providing longer term effects on society.
My research focuses on young people who have been excluded from mainstream schools due to behavioral and social, emotional and mental health challenges. I explore their experiences in Alternative Provision (AP) and the often difficult process of reintegrating back into mainstream education.
Working from a social justice perspective, my goal is to amplify these young peoples voices, which are often ignored in policy discussions. I will examine unanalysed literature and collect data directly from students to develop a practical framework that schools can use to improve the reintegration process and reduce repeated exclusions.
My research aims to develop strategies that ensure smooth transitions for excluded students, reducing disruptions in their education and giving them a better chance at success. Over the next three years, I’m excited to amplify the voices of these young people and contributes to more inclusive education practices.
