A brief history of your career since leaving the University of Birmingham

I have been working both as a lecturer, researcher and activist on the relationship between nationhood, racialised imageries and popular culture. It was a great opportunity to be Ph.D student in the Departament of Cultural Studies and Sociology at Birmingham.

Skills and knowledge from your postgraduate degree have you used in your career so far

I learned to be both critical and creative when doing social research. I remember how much I learned reading "Policing the Crisis" during my years at Birmingham.

Main work activities in your current role

I teach both undergraduates and graduates courses. I also work on research on migration.

A typical day in your job

Teaching, reading and writing.

Main challenges in your role

My main challenge right now is contributing to the creation of a new PhD. programme on the topic of Social Sciences in Central America.

Why did this type of work appeal to you?

I would like to use the skills I learnt at the University of Birmingham to support a postgraduate student in their academic journey.
