A brief history of your career since leaving the University of Birmingham

I was employed as an associate lecturer for the Open University, I then went on to study a doctorate in Education, after which I gained employment as a lecturer at Leeds Beckett University. I was then promoted to Senior Lecturer and Director of the Doctorate in Education, and then, after some time, I became the Head of Subject (Department) in the School of Education.


Skills and knowledge from your postgraduate degree have you used in your career so far

My research specialism in ‘bilingualism in education’ from my Med has been invaluable to my career progression. It has also led to several publications.


Main work activities in your current role

I lead and manage one of the two departments in the School of Education which houses undergraduate, postgraduate and research awards.


A typical day in your job

I’m extremely busy! No day is ever the same, and it is challenging, but also rewarding nonetheless.


Main challenges in your role

I lead change management, so it’s always a challenge putting university and school directive into practice.


Why did this type of work appeal to you?

I am ambitious and like to challenge myself. I am also a people's person who enjoys mentoring colleagues.
