We’ve come to the end of our Q&A session today. Thank you very much to everyone who took part – I hope we managed to be of assistance and provide the information that you were looking for.
We will hold many more of these virtual open day events over the coming months so please check www.pg.bham.ac.uk now and again to see what we’ve got lined up for the future. If you’d like to visit our campus (in real life!), our next Postgraduate Open Day will take place on Wednesday 22 November 2017. We also run bespoke campus tours throughout term time and Cafés at which you can meet current students.
I am expecting to have 120 credits of study at Masters level with the OU in English. Can I complete my MA at Birmingham?
It will depend on the policy of the individual department so you will need to speak to the admissions tutor for the Masters programme to which you would like to transfer. For the MA Literature and Culture this is Dr Chris Mourant.
Hope that helps!
The NHS bursaries for physiotherapy (pre-reg) were recently changed and now I believe the course is only self-funded for the two years. Is this likely to changed before September 2018?
I’m afraid that it is unlikely that the government will reintroduce the NHS bursaries. From 1 August 2017, new allied health students (which includes Physiotherapy students) will no longer receive NHS bursaries. Instead, they will have access to the same student loans system as other students. This applies to new students on pre-registration courses (those which lead to registration with one of the health professional regulators).
Best of luck with your studies!
Good afternoon. I am very interested in MSc by research – Microbiology and Infection. Can you please confirm the tuition fees for 2018/2019 for EU students? Also, what are the options of funding for EU students? Are there bursaries available? Thank you very much.
The MSc by Research Microbiology and Infection course costs £4,270 for UK and EU students. For funding opportunities, have a look at our PG Funding Database. This can be filtered by level of study, subject area and your home country. The system will then pull up detailed information about all of the sources of funding to which you can apply.
Hope this helps!
I am in the process of applying for the MSc Physiotherapy Course (Pre-registration). Having the prerequisite degree / modules, references and the clinical evidence required to make a solid application – I am still worried about whether I can afford the course or not? The course, as you know, is 2 years long at a cost of £13,900 a year. Having already completed a BSc using Student Finance as a means to fund my first degree, how much money would I receive from the loans company in both years and will it cover the cost of £27,800?
Unfortunately, as the Government has withdrawn funding from the NHS for this course, you would need to be self-funded. The Postgraduate loan can cover up to £10,280, but you cannot loan any more. We do have a number of other postgraduate funding opportunities on our PG Funding Database. This can be filtered by level of study, subject area and your home country. The system will then pull up detailed information about all of the sources of funding to which you can apply.
Hope this helps,
